For Grandpa Horn

This day marks the 11th anniversary of my Grandfather’s passing from this world. He and I were very close and I still miss him more than I can say. Wherever you are, Grandpa, know that I love you, that I miss you and that some day we shall see each other again and I still expect you to call out “Lyssie, love”.

His Memories Alive

Alyssa Neel

He’s gone,

He’s left me now,

His hand has slipped as I kiss his brow.

He breathes no more,

His eyes they close,

He’s faded away in a peaceful doze.

I know he was special,

I know he was blessed

As I lay my head upon his chest.

He said he loved me,

He kissed my cheek,

My tears now roll, I can hardly speak.

I know that he’s gone,

I know it’s forever,

But I know that I’ll never forget him, not ever.

He lives in my heart,

He lives in my soul,

His memories alive, it’s healthy and whole.

First Canning Experience

A few weeks ago my sister and I rolled up our sleeves and canned green and purple beans. The project was so much fun! It involved lots of squealing, accidentally setting a dish towel on fire and overfilling the canning pot so that we ended up with a hot waterfall at one point. No one was injured (thank heavens) and last night we opened the first jar of Dilly Beans and were so pleased that they tasted absolutely delicious. With only 11 jars left I don’t think they will last long.

Lake Adventures

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”…I love that saying. We had one of those experiences last weekend when we took the boat to Lake Roosevelt. Everything that could go wrong did. First the water levels at the lake were so high that all the beaches that usually pepper the coastline had disappeared underwater, leaving nowhere to beach the boat. So we wandered around for awhile until we found a little cove and accidentally chewed off a chunk of the prop on some rocks. Oops.

Then the boat wouldn’t start up again. So with a broken prop and flooded engine we “decided” to drift for awhile. Turned out to be a blast. The little boys took turns jumping off the back of the boat. Hold that. Just about every body took turns jumping off the back of the boat. The water was fabulous. We broke out all the delicious snacks stored in the cooler and generally had a great time sunbathing. The engine did eventually roar back to life and we decided to be brave and try exploring some more rather than heading to the launch.

Somewhere along the ride, we managed to lose all the air in the big tube and then Mark clipped his eyebrow on the windshield, causing a nice gash and some blood. But we did eventually find a little shoreline and Bryan skied so all was not lost. My favorite part though, was being “shipwrecked” out there when the engine wouldn’t start and just floating around in the water for awhile. It was a Gilligan’s Island adventure.

4th of July Fun

I’m a little behind in posting our activities this summer. Now that we live somewhere warm, dry and sunny I find myself drawn to the outdoors and actually “doing” the fun stuff, rather than hunched over my laptop.

Over 4th of July weekend, GeGe came for a visit and we spent a day at Long lake, roasted marshmallows and generally laughed a lot, ate too much and got a little pink from the sunshine.
