Travelogue

Day 1 NYC Trip

Wednesday night was supposed to be a productive train ride to Seattle, swiftly followed by 8-9 hours of sleep nestled sweetly into my Grandmother’s spare room.

Instead, Wednesday night was four hours on the train, two of which we were sitting outside Kelso WA. A return trip to Portland due to a tragic accident on the tracks ahead of us. Waiting in line to have our tickets refunded. An expensive (but well worth it) cab ride back to the office because it was raining cats and dogs and we had four bags between us. 10pm found us on I-5 driving to Seattle instead. 2am we finally arrive, sneak into Grandma’s house, fall asleep in our clothes and drag ourselves out of bed four short hours later to catch our flight to Newark.

The travel gods have it out for us.

On our way to the Big Apple

Sometimes a gal just needs to get out of Dodge.

In this case, I planned meticulously for months.

I found a great Living Social deal on a hotel stay.

I booked plane tickets with the help of a companion pass from GeGe.

Then I kept it a secret from the man in my life only to finally spill the beans three weeks ahead of time because, come on, a trip across the county is just too BIG of a trip not to tell some one about.

And now for a moment of honesty, for the week or two leading up to the trip I started dreading it. Work is overwhelming right now.  (I could put that in caps and bold it and it still wouldn’t express my meaning well enough) It seemed a little irresponsible to leave everything behind for two whole business days and traipse across the country to New York on a fling. Sigh. Still, everything was purchased and nothing was refundable so whether I liked it or not, we were going.

So I packed. And by packed, I mean I managed to squeeze everything we would need for four days into two modest sized duffle bags, thus avoiding the atrocious checked bag fees. Toms shoes, warm winter jackets, beautiful scarves, a dress for going out, sweaters for Bryan. Somehow all of it made it into the bag. As well as Sterling Coffee, several good books to read, and (gasp) NO camera, NO razors, NO work projects. We were set.

Let the adventures begin. And please Lord, let there be rest.

Baby Sister’s Birthday

A quick trip to Seattle resulted in lots of fun adventures to celebrate my little sis’s 13th birthday.

H2C

This past weekend Bryan ran with the Twisted Blisters in the “Mother of all Relays”, Hood to Coast. It was an awesome experience for all of us. For me it meant a cozy beach hangout in Manzanita, time with Grandma E, and lots of R&R. For Bryan it meant a big accomplishment, lots of perseverance, a chance to bond with eleven other men, and the bug to do it all over again next year. End of the Race
