Sweet Memories
I had an experience recently that brought back a rush of memories from my early childhood and the six or so years I spent in the Mohave desert.
Bryan and I were out hiking with his Aunt and Uncle on the outskirts of Surprise Arizona when I smelled a plant that used to grow in our backyard when I was 12. Wow! I spent the rest of the hike sniffing the air to catch another wiff. The power of scent is unbelievable. Perhaps it was being back in the desert where so many of my best memories took place that made me try to convince Bryan we should move to Phoenix. Regardless, he didn’t buy it so we’re staying here in Portland instead. But someday I have a feeling I”ll be back in that hot, dry climate where a glimpse of water is like a tiny miracle from heaven.
